Description

Saint Étienne

Saint Étienne est empli du Saint-Esprit et élève son visage angélique vers la vision du Père et du Fils. Devant une foule impassible, les deux faux témoins se préparent à jeter les premières pierres. À gauche, Saül approuve la meurtre. En contrebas, les tonnelles de roses et de raisins font peut-être allusion à saint Étienne (le panier de roses symbolisant son tombeau et martyre) et à Catherine Budé, la femme défunte d'Étienne Chevalier (les trois grappes de raisins de ses armoiries).
